AboutFace-USA®: Strengthening Veteran Resiliencies
AboutFace-USA®, is a nonprofit. Its mission is to create an environment for veterans, their families and others, to work on whole-health wellness and to address the psychological aftereffects of trauma. Founded almost 15 years ago, they recognized that the lack of needed mental health resources was great (it still is). Veterans need a dedicated support system, a safe and trusted resource center and a selection of opportunities for personal growth. Our team of trauma-informed care directors, staff and volunteers who are passionately dedicated to our veterans. Our programs are designed to foster resilience, independence, and well-being among veterans, helping them to thrive in their post-service lives. AboutFace-USA was established to raise awareness of and bridge the gap between veterans and the critical services they require. When mental health is a factor, awareness and decision-making capabilities can become limited and the barriers to seeking help intensify. We believe that no veteran should have to face these challenges alone. We help navigate around and through barriers. We aim to restore hope, create opportunities for personal growth and development, and support dignity to those who have served our nation. We recognize that whole-health wellness addresses more than mental wellness, it includes food security and healthy eating, financial literacy for a healthy money-mindset, and learning coping skills to help build and keep relationships.

What We Offer - Key Programs
1. Project GROW (Gardening Recreation Outreach Wellness) is the home of AboutFace Farm, our indoor vertical aeroponic farm. We garden fresh produce, educate about nutrition, food safety, agricultural innovations and environment/climate science through workshops and entrepreneurial business training. We utilize the therapeutic benefits of gardening and encourage the use of learned coping skills and behavioral health practices. This program is free to veterans and encompasses more than AboutFace Farm, it is the all-inclusive name of our whole health wellness initiative.
2. Clinical Therapies for mental health and substance use concerns are handled offsite. Assessments and counseling services are free to veteran families who are screened by our program manager and qualify based on veteran status, residential location and availability of AboutFace-USA funds.
3. Veteran Support Groups are veteran-led peer support groups that provide a platform for veterans to share their experiences and concerns, receive emotional support, and build informal relationships. These groups play a vital role in fostering a sense of belonging and connection among participants and help to prevent isolation.
4. Veteran Ride Service Program is a critical need for many veterans. They get free transportation (access) to and from health care appointments. This program is designed to reduce barriers and enhance mobility for our veterans.
5. Financial Literacy Coaching is incorporated in our whole health wellness program, Project GROW. Free in-person and phone or online sessions focus on individualized needs and concerns. Its aim is to equip veterans with the tools and strategies needed to manage their money realistically and to reduce stress.
6. Homeless Veteran Assistance is a program that provides essential attention to veterans who need housing, mental health care, VA Benefits assistance, employment opportunities and who have food insecurities. We have an annual backpack drive to provide new under-garments, winter clothing, toiletries and food in the backpacks to give to homeless veterans and others.
7. Outreach, Advocacy, and Sustainability are programs needed by veterans, our communities, and our organization. Our dedicated team works tirelessly to raise awareness about mental health, suicide and homelessness prevention, and food safety needs. We educate, share resources, and offer programs.
